Mercedes- Benz Fashion Week: To Infinity And Beyond

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week can be summed up in two words: Exceptionally Ambitious.

Some girls imagine Heaven as a glorious castle in the sky, surrounded by angels and unicorns. Some imagine it as an elusive and mystical jungle hidden beneath the surface of our crust. Some even imagine it as an endless bowl of ice cream. Then there are the girls like me, who believe Heaven is a place on Earth, and appears only twice a year in the form of the New York Fashion Week.

Now, I am well aware that Milan, London, and Paris also deal their hand in the bi-annual game of fashion, but lets get real. NYFW starts first for a reason.

Beginning in 1943, the first NYFW was actually held to draw attention away from the French during WWII. And thus came the week that every little fashion alien waits for.

So lets have a re-cap of everything that stood out. (To me of course)

Betsey Johnson

My dear, you have done it again. Always a highly anticipated designer, Betsey Johnson will always bring the fierce, and the fun. Her pallet was very interesting, maintaining femininity, and modern, with a twist of a futuristic metallic, this collection was a refreshing relief.

Zimmerman

Nicky Zimmermann has always been a huge inspiration for me. With her delicate fabric, and her ridiculously girly spin on everyday clothing, she brings the perfect balance of modest, and sexy. But Nicky, what did you try and do with the last photo?! Both items are, alone, fantastic. But together?

Herve Leger by Max Azria

Patterns galore!! I'm never one for redundant clothing, but for some reason, I just couldn't get enough! There were plenty of designers trying to incorporate the futuristic look (Explaining why i summed the week up as exceptionally ambitious), but Azria took the cake. I wish I could say more, but there are no words.

Stay tuned for my re-caps on those who attended the MBFW.
Thanks again for another bountiful harvest, Fashion Gods. We are all thankful.

500 Days Of Autumn

Dear Summer,

We had a blast. There were parties, there were beaches, margaritas, and those unforgettable hot and sweaty nights. But, you see, the time has come to say goodbye, for there is another love in my life. Autumn. With the palette from the dreams of mother nature, and crisp air to fill my senses, and swoop me off my feet, Autumn made me realize one important aspect of you; You're so last season. Until next year!

XOXO

Now that the hard part is over, and tears were shed (AS IF), allow me to introduce my new love interest, and all of her wonderful attributes.

Layers, Layers, Layers

(Okay. Whoa. Maybe, a bit less will do)

(Much Better.)

Autumn is NOTORIOUS for its relentless need for layers. Bundling up into a skater skirt and basic top, adding eye catching boots, and a whimsical cardigan draped over your shoulders is a great way to mix comfort and style.

boots: steve madden
skater skirt: rue21
basic top: max studios
cardigan: express

Over sized EVERYTHING.

Be it coat, purse, shades, or color overload, more is more. A look made popular by the ever so elegant Mary Kate Olsen, oversizing items (while appropriately balancing it out with slim fit jeans, or tights) can take your look from derelict, to daringly rad. Trust me when I say, not only is bigger better, its more comfortable!

Hang on to your shorts!

Transitioning from one relationship to another is hard. Especially when they have something you so desperately want to keep. Well, Summer, you can no longer take my shorts away from me! (Have I mentioned how much better Autumn is?!) Throwing opaque or sheer tights or thigh high socks underneath show Summer how WAAAAYYY better off you are!

So here is the best part. Not only is Autumn so incredibly beautiful, flattering, fresh, unique, and charming, she is also interested in an open relationship. This being said she is mine to share with the rest of you! Trust me, there is PLENTY to go around!

Take your new found love, and channel her into a new fall style. Make Summer jealous she ever left!

Did We Just Break Up?

No, it isn't over.

It has just been a while.
I owe every single one of you my sincerest apologies. Between shoots, shows, and trying to sign on to a management, I have been up to my elbows in things to do. So without further adieu, I'm sorry.

Now,

Moving on...

Today I would just like to share with you a few photos from my shoot with Elegy, and shine some light on my up coming plans for the future! So let us begin! Enjoy, and see you soon!

All Photos Are Under The Copyright Of Elegy Clothing
And
EAK Photography

Welcome back!
Oh the imagination this shoot brought to life! Never had I shot for anything long these lines, so while fun, it was VERY challenging. Capturing the Lolita look is much harder than it looks, and at one point, I had to be shoved inside of the trunk in the final photo and look like a doll! Oh how fun!

Now for what i am planning to do in the future...

I hope to be collaborating with the beautiful Kohl Murdock, who's work can be found at:

Located out of Chicago, IL, Kohl has mastered the art of capturing the image of beautiful creatures on a broad spectrum. Between the musical talents of Imagine Dragons, to the lovely Pieces Koala Art brings to the table, this girl is rocking the scene, taking everyone, and everything, on. No project is too big, no person too small.

Now before I rant for days about Kohl (Which I could), I would also like to mention that I have made the decision to no longer work freelance. After much consideration, I have come to the conclusion that working under management will be the best route to take. So wish me luck as I turn in to a mad scientist to shop myself out to companies all over!

Talk to you all soon (Promise :D)

Sole Searching

Can we just take the time and think about our souls?

By souls, I mean soles. And by that I mean shoes. Yes. Shoes.

The one thing a girl can always count on to support her and never hold her back. Shoes.

Shoes.
Shoes.
Shoes.

The word just sends shooting chills up my back and in to my heart, where it keeps a warm little bed, and a kitchen, and a four car garage. Yes, I'll admit it. I LOVE SHOES. Sandals, Stilletos, Wedges, Platforms, there are just so many! So I am going to dedicate this blog to my favorite shoes, while also explaining why they are my favorite. Lets start with a classic.

The Lita
Jeffrey Campbell's most prized shoe. This iconic staple to any wardrobe will forever be the most aesthetically pleasing item to adorn. Walking in these instantly makes you feel like Tyra Banks, ruling the runways in a commanding "Look at me, and never turn away," fashion. Just look at them. LOOK.

The Hellraiser
This gem made under Unif really lives up to its name. With a spiked perimeter around your feet, you feel almost like you can run into the burning flames of Hell with the Master Sword and slay every demon until you get to the emperial gates, face to face with Lucifer himself and denounce his reign upon the minions of the inferno....but I'm getting ahead of myself now. With that being said, they rule. Hard.

Lovelace Your Face Creeper
Made by the always genius Iron Fist line, These bad boys, bring out the girl in all. With the chunky creeper style that hasn't shown its face since the 70's, this spin has brought you the best of both worlds. Combining the heavy studs and rubber with the delicate lace surrounding your ankles, you cant help but wonder if you should be picking daisies, or taking lunch money. Why not both?

Girls can have more than one best friend. Which is why God gave you more than one foot. Shoes are the ultimate accessory. And with that being said, I will end this post with a quote from the eternally beautiful Marilyn Monroe....

"Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world."

Boys Will Be Boys

It's a man's world, but it would be nothing without a woman in it?
Please.

We all know that the REAL version of that saying should be "It's a woman's world, but it would be nothing without fashion in it. With names like Marc Jacobs, Jeffrey Campbell, and Calvin Kline, one would think that men know what fashion is. FALSE. I can not tell you how many times my boyfriend has replied to the age old question "Babe, what should i wear," with "Just jeans and a t-shirt."

LAAAAME.....

I mean, yeah, if I'm out mowing the lawn, or painting the house, or trying to dress 20 years ahead of my age, but COME ON BOYS. Girls have such a broad spectrum of clothes, so why not take advantage? We all know the favorites of boys. Dresses, skirts, and bikinis. Well boys, DO YOU REALIZE HOW MANY DIFFERENT KINDS THERE ARE?! Why not throw in some JC's with a spiked wallet to an ankle grazing dress, and just have you say, "My girl is just so damn FIERCE!"

I'm going to keep this Blog update short and sweet. So its kinda of like me venting, but what is a girl to do? All I will say is that as long as there is a boy saying we can't, there will be 254,788,546 girls saying, "Uhhh, yes we can."

After all, this IS a woman's world.

Trending Fashion Vs. Personal Style

When Google-ing the words "Trending Fashion" the first photo that pops up (as of today) is a young girl with black leggings, white shirt, jean jacket, and John Lennon style shades. All staples to a modern day fashionista's wardrobe, these items are so easy and basic. But fashion isn't easy, and most definitely NOT basic. As every woman knows, style is something that you personalize with attitude. While you may be fashion savvy, you could lack independent and unique style.

So here's the skinny. You want to make a statement? You want to have that "WOW" factor? Here is what you need:

Lets start with the legs. Seeing how it is approaching summer (FINALLY!), there is going to be a LOT of bare legs. Skirts, dresses, shorts OH MY! But why not dress up your legs?

This would look awesome with some DD shorts!

Throw this baby on with a high waist skirt (see below), with the top strap hiding, and girl, you've got it MADE!

Skirts will live longer than Betty White. Going through the timeline of fashion, we see skirts EVERYWHERE! And who doesn't love twirling around in a beautiful mini? I swear, if I lived in a weather permitting state, i would never wear another pair of Calvin Kline's again! (Okay, so maybe every once in a while. I mean they are CK's.)

Now that you have a cute fem piece, lets throw in that basic top! This is where the fun starts. The shoes <3 Now, if you're anything like me, you have devoted your entire bedroom floor to Jeffery Campbell, Unif, and the Oh-so-affordable, Michael Antonio. Make a statement with your kicks, ones that make everyone say "....damn".

Like these bad boys (Unif Hellraisers)

Now let's get personal. Take those treasures I was talking about in my previous blog, put that stuff together, and add the most important ingredient. Attitude! Work that sidewalk like a runway, and throw all your f**ks in the trash.

This is how to take trending fashion, and turn it on to your personal style. Rock it!
